Kirby Continues His Asia Adventure

Posted in Kirby | 5 Comments »

Hi everyone. Here is the last of Kirby’s trip through Asia. Enjoy!

———

Here we are back in Subic Bay in the Philippines. FedEx has a cargo base here, so we come here often. It was once a U.S. military base.

After Subic Bay, we moved on to Cebu in the southern part of the Philippines. It was a one-hour flight from Subic Bay to Cebu. We stayed in the Shangri La Hotel — one of the best hotels in Cebu. Cebu is an island. Can you find how long it is from north to south?

From Cebu we moved on to China. We went to the city of Guangzhou in the southern part of China. There sure seemed to be a lot of people there. Can you find out what the population of Guangzhou is?

Our journey also took us to Singapore (hmmm…isn’t that the name of one of Sycamore’s busses??). Here are some pictures from that trip:

From Kirby:

We left Seoul, South Korea and made a short stop in Subic Bay in the Philippines. It is 1,466 miles from Seoul to Subic Bay. I am flying with a FedEx pilot, Mr. Vanterpool, and the company has a cargo facility in Subic Bay.

That same night, we flew to Bangkok, Thailand which was another 1,146 miles of flying.

Question: How many total miles did we fly that night?

Bangkok is the capital of Thailand. It is called Krung Thep Maha Nakhon in the Thai language. They call it Krung Thep for short. Bangkok beacme the capital in 1768 and is the world’s 22nd largest city by population with 15 million people.

From Kirby:

Hi! We travled from Hong Kong to Seoul, South Korea, a distance of 1,362 miles. We moved across another time zone so now we are 14 hours ahead of Raleigh.

Question: If it is 4:00 in the afternoon in Raleigh, what time is it in Seoul?

Seoul is the capial of South Korea with a population of 10 million people. The metropolitan area called Seoul National Capital Area includes the cities of Incheon and Gyeonggi-do. The area has a total population of 24.5 million people making it the world’s second largest metropolitan area.

Kirby in Asia

Hi all, Kirby Crocodile is now in Asia. He is traveling with a pilot for FedEx, so he will get to see lots of places in Asia. Here are the first pictures from the trip. First, Kirby had to fly from Raleigh to New York, and then he had a long flight from New York to Hong Kong. Here is what Kirby had to say. – Kyle

Well, it was a long trip. It took us 15 1/2 hours to get from New York to Hong Kong. Hong Kong is 13 hours ahead of Raleigh. That means if it 12:00 p.m. in North Carolina (lunch time), it is 1:00 a.m. the next day in Hong Kong. I did have a really comfortable seat on the way over and even got to meet one of the pilots of the Cathy Pacific flight I was on.

After the long flight it was nice to arrive in Hong Kong. It was not a very clear day that day. There is a lot of smog in the city. I got to see one of the double-decker busses that people use to get around the city. Where else do they use double-decker busses??

Here’s a question for all of you back at Sycamore Creek: what are the two official languages of Hong Kong?? Hint: one of them sounds pretty familiar.

There will be more pictures to come. I miss everyone back home, but am having a great time.
